ARCHITEKTURBILD in Stuttgart

I am showing work at the group exhibition ARCHITEKTURBILD 1995–2011 | Der zweite Blick in Stuttgart. The exhibition takes place at Fotogalerie f75 and runs from November 5 to December 13.

Here, the exhibition brings together selected works from the European Architectural Photography Prize. At the same time, it invites visitors to look again at how photographers respond to architecture and change.

About the ARCHITEKTURBILD Exhibition

ARCHITEKTURBILD began in 1995 and reached its tenth edition in 2013. To mark this moment, the exhibition Der zweite Blick presents all first-prize-winning series from the European Architectural Photography Prize between 1995 and 2011.

As a result, the show offers a clear overview of nearly two decades of architectural photography. It also shows how themes, cities, and visual approaches have shifted over time. Exhibition catalogues are available at the gallery.

Urban Nature

My photo series Urban Nature received first prize at the European Architectural Photography Prize in 2011. The work focuses on the urban edges of Seoul, where most people live in dense city areas.

In this series, I look at how the idea of the compact city begins to change. Urban growth moves outward. As this happens, landscape and architecture overlap more often. Because of this, the line between urban and rural space becomes less clear.

Observing Change at the City’s Edge

Urban Nature follows areas shaped by large suburban growth. Over time, former outskirts turn into mixed spaces that feel both urban and rural. These places often remain unnoticed. However, they play an important role in how cities expand.

Through photography, I try to stay close to these transitions. Instead of focusing on spectacle, the images observe structure, scale, and everyday presence.

About the European Architectural Photography Prize

The European Architectural Photography Prize is organized by architekturbild e.V. together with the German Architecture Museum. Today, it remains one of the best-known awards dedicated to architectural photography.

Each entry consists of a series of four images that respond to a set theme. The jury awards one first prize, two second prizes, and several commendations. Selected works then appear in a catalogue and travel as part of group exhibitions.

Visiting the Exhibition

ARCHITEKTURBILD 1995–2011 | Der zweite Blick is on view at Fotogalerie f75, Filderstraße 75, near Marienplatz in Stuttgart. The gallery opens on Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 7 pm. Visits are also possible by appointment. Overall, the exhibition offers a focused view on architectural photography and its role in shaping how we see cities today.
