Last Letters Selected as Finalist at One Screen Short Film Festival
LAST LETTERS has been selected as a finalist in the documentary category at the One Screen Short Film Festival 2017. The film looks at the emotional aftermath of the Sewol ferry tragedy and focuses on how families continue to live with loss. Being part of this festival is an important step for the project.
One Screen and the One Club for Creativity
The One Screen Short Film Festival is organized by the One Club for Creativity. The festival brings together work from film, advertising, and visual storytelling. It creates space for projects that sit between disciplines and value strong ideas over format. I appreciate this context, as LAST LETTERS was never meant to fit neatly into one category.
The Documentary Lineup
This year’s documentary selection brings together a wide range of voices and perspectives. LAST LETTERS screens alongside films such as NZINGHA, PERFECTLY NORMAL, HE UNBELIEVERS: BURNELL COTLON, THE QUIET MAN, THE UNFORGOTTEN, and NEPAL: A FRAGILE STATE. Being included among these works highlights the diversity of approaches within contemporary documentary filmmaking.
Event Details in New York
The awards ceremony takes place on October 17 at Sunshine Cinema in New York City. The event includes film screenings followed by a reception, offering time to meet other filmmakers and creatives. I’m grateful for the chance to share the film in this setting and to be part of the conversation around documentary storytelling.
About Last Letters
LAST LETTERS centers on the Sewol ferry disaster of April 16, 2014. The film follows eight families who lost loved ones and looks at the spaces they inhabit today. By combining documentary and fictional elements, I tried to approach the subject with care and distance. The focus stays on absence, memory, and the quiet isolation that remains long after the event itself.
This selection at One Screen feels less like an endpoint and more like another opportunity to let the film travel and meet new audiences.
