Overview

As a branded documentary cinematographer BASED IN Seoul, I worked on this film for the Korean biotech company ExoCoBio. The project was produced in collaboration with BBC Storyworks and focused on the company’s research into exosomes, an emerging field in bioengineering with a wide range of potential medical and therapeutic applications.

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that play a role in cell communication. ExoCoBio has developed technology to purify and isolate exosomes and is researching exosome-based treatments. The film introduces this scientific context while maintaining clarity for a broader audience. Rather than presenting the subject in a promotional tone, the approach remained grounded and observational.

The production took place in Seoul, South Korea. I worked across multiple roles ( director, director of photography, editor, and colorist) overseeing the visual structure from shoot through post-production. As a branded documentary cinematographer Based in Seoul, my focus was on balancing laboratory environments with human presence. Clean compositions and controlled lighting helped communicate precision without overstating the subject matter.

Shooting inside research facilities required coordination with scientific teams and sensitivity to working lab conditions. Interviews were approached with a simple, direct setup to maintain focus on the researchers and their work. Visual details of equipment, processes, and material surfaces were integrated to provide context without interrupting the narrative flow.

Through the collaboration between my production company Contented and BBC Storyworks, the film positions ExoCoBio within the broader conversation around biotechnology and regenerative medicine. The final piece reflects a documentary-driven structure while remaining clearly within the branded format.
