Overview

In the China episode of Beauty and the Feast, we spotlight three women who use food and strength to challenge cultural norms and redefine self-expression. First is Ms Yeah, a well-known creative who experiments with unconventional objects or trash as tools for preparing food. Her inventive cooking style bends the boundaries between art, sustainability, and performance.

Alongside her is Vivian Bo, a dedicated bodybuilder whose training, discipline, and presence push back against conventional expectations of femininity. Her journey shows how strength and physique become part of identity, particularly in settings that may not fully accept women who don’t follow traditional norms. Also featured is Duoyi, a food-oriented internet personality whose company monetizes her eating channel. She not only eats large quantities of food in a Mukbang-style format but also runs the business behind the scenes—blurring the lines between content creator, entrepreneur, and brand.

As Director of Photography hired by Singaporean production company Freeflow, we followed these women in their everyday lives and practices. The goal was to bring texture, energy, authenticity and a dash of humor to each narrative, capturing both performance and the private moments of vulnerability, strength, and ambition.
