Overview

As a SEOUL Based cinematographer I worked on BLACKPINK The Movie, produced to mark the fifth anniversary of the K-Pop group’s debut. BLACKPINK, formed by YG Entertainment, consists of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. Since their debut in August 2016 with Square One, the group has become one of the most internationally recognized acts in K-Pop.

The film reflects on the group’s development, performances, and global reach. Rather than functioning as a conventional concert film, BLACKPINK The Movie combines live material with documentary elements, archival footage, and behind-the-scenes moments. My role as director of photography was to support the visual continuity between these different formats while maintaining a consistent tone.

Working as a cinematographer based in Seoul on a K-Pop production of this scale requires a balance between performance energy and controlled framing. Lighting conditions varied between staged sequences and documentary-style setups, so adaptability on set was essential. Close coordination with the production team ensured that the visual language aligned with the film’s overall structure.

Because the project centered on BLACKPINK’s global presence, the imagery needed to remain clear and focused rather than overly stylized. Performance scenes emphasized movement and atmosphere, while interview and documentary segments were approached with a more restrained camera style. Working As a cinematographer on this K-Pop Blackpink production, the work moved between large-scale stage environments and more intimate moments.

The result is a film that documents a significant milestone in BLACKPINK’s career while maintaining a consistent visual approach across performance and narrative segments.
