CONTINUING RESONANCE

Continuing Resonance is a 38-minute documentary centered on a special memorial concert marking the 25th anniversary of the passing of Hyundai founder Chung Ju-yung. I directed the film, following four of South Korea’s internationally acclaimed pianists – Sunwook Kim, Yekwon Sunwoo, Seong-Jin Cho and Yunchan Lim – as they came together for a rare performance at the Seoul Arts Center.

At the heart of the concert was a musical progression from one piano to two and ultimately four pianos, gradually expanding the scale and depth of the performance. The program was conceived not simply as a memorial, but as a reflection on Chung Ju-yung’s legacy and the resonance it continues to carry.

We followed the musicians through intimate rehearsal sessions at Audeum and the Seoul Arts Center, moving between rehearsals, conversations, backstage preparations and the stage itself. Rather than approaching the project as a conventional concert recording, we wanted to capture both the precision of the performances and the quieter interactions surrounding them.

Our team was the only film crew granted permission to film the concert itself, allowing us to document the performance from multiple perspectives while working discreetly within the live environment. CNN, which separately covered the event, was provided with our concert footage for its reporting.

Planned by INNOCEAN and produced by MARKENFILM ASIA, Continuing Resonance brings together documentary filmmaking and classical music performance to explore memory, collaboration and the enduring influence of a legacy through music.

I work as a director and documentary filmmaker based in South Korea, collaborating with international brands, agencies and production companies on projects in Korea and abroad.
