Overview
As a director of photography Based in Asia, I was brought on by Minority to execute a branded content shoot for Hanwha Group in Seoul, South Korea. The project focused on visually translating the scale and legacy of one of the country’s most established conglomerates.
Hanwha was founded in 1952 under the name Korea Explosives Co. Over the decades, the company expanded steadily beyond its original explosives business into retail, financial services and a wide range of industrial sectors. In 1992, it adopted the shortened name “Hanwha,” reflecting a broader and more diversified identity. Today, the group includes 56 affiliates in South Korea and operates an extensive international network of affiliates, branches and representative offices worldwide.
The challenge of the shoot was to convey this history and range without relying on heavy exposition. As director of photography, my role was to shape a visual language that felt contemporary while acknowledging the company’s long-standing presence. We worked across different locations in Seoul and Kangwando Province, capturing environments that reflect both innovation and continuity.
Working in collaboration with Minority, the production moved efficiently across multiple setups. The Seoul setting provided a strong visual context, balancing corporate spaces with the broader urban environment.
As a director of photography Asia working on this project, I focused on consistency and restraint. The final film presents Hanwha not only as a company with historical roots, but as an organization that continues to evolve within a global landscape.
