Overview

As a documentary filmmaker Korean DMZ, I was commissioned by the Goethe-Institut Korea to make a short film about an annual artists residency in Cheorwon, a rural area close to the Demilitarised Zone.

Each year, international artists spend time in a small farming village within sight of the border. They arrive with their own ideas and working methods, and suddenly find themselves in a place shaped by military history, agriculture and a strong local community. The distance between everyday village life and contemporary art practice becomes immediately visible.

The film follows these encounters without forcing a narrative onto them. Conversations unfold slowly. Misunderstandings sit next to moments of curiosity and openness. The presence of the Korean DMZ is constant, but it remains in the background – less spectacle, more atmosphere.

Art Attack is a quiet observation of how cultural values meet in a very specific place. It looks at what happens when different perspectives share the same space, even if only for a limited time.
