Overview
As a director of photography, I worked on this one-minute brand promo for Samsung Life Insurance in collaboration with the Seoul-based production company Optical Lab. The film focuses on the idea of “Oath” and explores themes of commitment, responsibility, and long-term trust within life insurance.
Samsung Life Insurance is the largest insurance company in South Korea and part of the Samsung Group. Rather than emphasizing product details, the promo concentrates on tone and message. As a result, the narrative remains minimal and relies on atmosphere and performance instead of explanation.
As a Seoul director of photography, I translated the central theme into a clear visual approach. I shaped the lighting and framing to support the emotional weight of the subject without pushing it too far. In addition, I paid close attention to texture and facial detail, since the film depends on subtle expression rather than overt action.
Because the format lasts only one minute, precision became essential. Every shot contributes directly to pacing and clarity. At the same time, I worked closely with Optical Lab to ensure the visual language aligned with the brand’s positioning.
The production took place in Seoul, South Korea. There, we designed interior environments with soft contrast to reinforce the reflective tone suggested by the title “Oath.” In the end, the film remains simple and focused.
Overall, this project reflects my broader work as a director of photography in Seoul across commercial and corporate productions, where clarity and restraint guide the final image.
