AFTER TRAVELING TO NORTH KOREA WHERE I SHOT THE DOCUMENTARY “ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE NORTH”, I BECAME MORE INTERESTED IN ISSUES RELATED TO THE DIVIDE OF NORTH AND SOUTH KOREA. IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS I DID SEVERAL TRIP TO THE KOREAN DEMILITARIZED ZONE (DMZ), WHICH SEPARATES THE TWO COUNTRIES. IN CHEORWON COUNTY I MADE THE SHORT FILM “ART ATTACK”, WHICH PORTRAYS A CLASH IN CULTURAL VALUES WHEN EACH YEAR A RANGE OF INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS TAKE PART IN A RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN A SMALL SOUTH KOREAN VILLAGE WITHIN SPITTING DISTANCE OF THE DMZ. THE BORDERLINE PHOTO PROJECT HAS BEEN PART OF A BICYCLE TRIP LEAVING SEOUL AND TRAVELING FROM WEST TO EAST ALONG THE OLD CIVILIAN CONTROL LINE (CCL), WHICH SHOWS REMAINING FRAGMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE THAT ILLUSTRATE THE DIVIDE OF THE TWO COUNTRIES ON SOUTH KOREAN GROUND. THIS PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT HAS BEEN PART OF MY BORDER SCOPE OF ARCHITECTURAL WORK RELATED TO THE TOPIC OF SPACES OF DISAPPEARANCE.
