Bikini Words at the Green Film Festival in Seoul

Bikini Words at the Green Film Festival in Seoul

BIKINI WORDS will screen at the GREEN FILM FESTIVAL in Seoul (GFFIS) in May 2017. The film previously received Best Short Documentary at Liverpool Lift-Off Film Festival and the 2016 Lift-Off Season Awards. This screening marks another step in its ongoing festival journey.

GFFIS takes place from May 18 to May 24, 2017, and focuses on the relationship between people, cities, and the environment. I’m grateful to see Bikini Words included in this context.

About the Green Film Festival in Seoul

GFFIS is dedicated to films that reflect on environmental issues and sustainable living. The 14th edition presents 51 films from 24 countries.

Screenings take place at venues including Ewha Womans University ECC Arthouse MOMO and Samsung Hall. The festival brings together filmmakers whose work looks at social change, ecology, and daily life.

The Sustainable Life Section

Bikini Words screens as part of the Sustainable Life section. This program focuses on alternative ways of living and working. The films in this section address topics such as labor, health, agriculture, and the long-term effects of industrial systems. These themes connect closely to the history explored in Bikini Words.

Double Screening With Rise: Red Power

BIKINI WORDS screens alongside Rise: Red Power by MICHELLE LATIMER. The film looks at contemporary indigenous resistance and the role of technology in shaping political movements.

Screenings take place on Thursday, May 18 at 13:30 and Saturday, May 20 at 17:00. Both screenings are held at Ewha Womans University ECC Arthouse MOMO 2. A guest talk follows the Saturday screening.

Why Bikini Words Fits GFFIS

Bikini Words focuses on the language that emerged among factory workers in South Korea during the 1970s and 1980s. These words grew out of rapid industrial change and new urban realities.

The film looks at work, space, and everyday life during that period. Within the framework of GFFIS, the film becomes part of a wider conversation about labor, responsibility, and long-term social impact.
