Overview
As part of Samsung’s Voices of Galaxy series, I directed a film profiling environmental advocate Lefteris Arapakis, whose work is reshaping how communities interact with the sea. Growing up in a family of fishermen in Piraeus, Greece, Lefteris witnessed firsthand the growing crisis of marine plastic pollution. What began as a shocking discovery of plastic caught in fishing nets became the spark for founding Enaleia, an organization dedicated to cleaning the oceans and reimagining waste as a resource.
The film follows Lefteris and the thousands of fishermen now working with Enaleia across the Mediterranean, hauling plastic from the water and transforming it into raw material for new products. With his Galaxy device in hand, Lefteris documents this ongoing effort, making the story visible to a global audience. His work highlights not only the urgency of the environmental crisis but also the potential of collective action to create meaningful change.
By aligning Lefteris’ mission with Samsung’s commitment to sustainability, the project connects personal determination with global responsibility. More than just a portrait of one individual, the film illustrates how technology can empower changemakers to scale their impact and inspire others. Through Voices of Galaxy, Lefteris’ story becomes a powerful reminder that transformation begins when we dare to act — and that the ocean, like change, belongs to everyone.
