Kia EV4 Automotive Photography at Myök
For this Kia EV4 automotive photography series, I photographed the EV4 at Myök, a contemporary bathhouse by South Korean studio Byarchitecture in Gyeonggi Province. The project brought together automotive and architectural photography within a setting defined by exposed concrete, stone, timber and the surrounding forest.
Myök combines elements of Finnish sauna culture with Korean communal bathing traditions. Its restrained material palette and relationship with the landscape created a strong environment for photographing the EV4. Rather than separating the car from the architecture, I approached the series as a dialogue between the two.
The resulting series explores the relationship between automotive design, contemporary Korean architecture and landscape. For me as a photographer, the location offered an opportunity to work with both the precise geometry of the architecture and the less predictable qualities of weather, vegetation, mist, reflections and natural light.
