Overview

THE 2013 “YÉOL ARTISAN OF THE YEAR” WAS AWARDED TO MASTER ARTISAN SOO-YOUNG KIM IN COLLABORATION WITH MODERN DESIGNER GIO KISANG. TOGETHER THEY RAISE THE VALUE OF TRADITIONAL CRAFTS AND MODERNISE THEM FOR EVERYDAY USE. BRASS ITSELF IS A SYMBOL OF SOPHISTICATION IN TRADITIONAL KOREAN CULTURE. BRASS KITCHENWARE TRANSCENDS MERE UTENSILS TO AFFORD US INSIGHT INTO TRADITIONAL KOREAN LIFE. YÉOL COMMISSIONED ME AS A PHOTOGRAPHER TO DOCUMENT SOO-YOUNG KIM’S AND GIO KISANG’s AWARD-WINNING BRASS HANDCRAFTED WORK. IN ADDITION I ALSO PAY HOMAGE TO THE WORK OF KOREAN CRAFTSMAN KIM SOO-YOUNG IN A SHORT FILM TITLES MEMORIES OF AN ARTISAN, WHICH I LINK BELOW THE PHOTOGRAPHS.
